I have to thank MsKathy for asking me to review So Be It. She is a goddess that deserves to be worshiped, daily.
Let me begin by telling you about how I found this story. One night I was on twitter and I saw the fabulous feathers_mmmm twittering about Pump up the Volume/Twilight crossover. The first thoughts that popped into my head were:
1. Christian Slater was one of my Top 5 celebrities crushes I had, granted, I was 9 or 10 years old at that time.
2. My mom can distinctly remember the first words out of my mouth the first time I ever laid eyes on Christian Slater as Happy Harry in Pump up the Volume.... Let's just say that I was sent immediately to the corner.
Thankfully, I don't have to worry about how she feels about Rob Pattinson.
Now let me tell you how much I love this story. I fangirled all over it, immediately.
First, she uses uber hot 80's music. Who here remembers Michael Hutchence from INXS.

Yeah, I can still recall the heart palpitations that I experienced when I saw that photo.
Then add Devil Inside by INXS to the mix:

Keep in mind, that is just one of many songs that SophiaAnne uses in this story.
The good news is that this story is complete and a meager five chapters. However, please don't even think about skimming this story because it is so damn intense.
So Be It is told strictly from Bella's point of view. Trust me when I say that I would love, Love, LOVE to have an Edward point of view.
I could give away some plot details, but I am a Brazilian tease like that.
I will say this:
The attraction between Edward and Bella is intense.
This Bella is confident and has some seriously awesome detective skills.
This Edward is multi-dimensional. You see two very different personalities and they leave me wanting more. So Much More.
I think the lovely ladies from the Perv Pack Smut Shack would love to elaborate on that :-)
My first reaction when I saw this was a Twilight/Pump Up The Volume crossover fic was if it would stand on it's own without having PUTV fresh in my brain. The last time I saw it was when it came out in 1990 (dating myself!). I was happy to see that it did. Even if you don't remember the details of Christian Slater's Happy Harry, you will quickly become enthralled with Edward's.
I love stories where the characters aren't always what they appear to be. In this one, a shy Edward and Bella find liberation under the anonymity of a microphone and a journal respectively. In Bella's private world, she spells out her boredom with her life and her desire for connection. Edward his thoughts and orgasms through the airwaves.
It is a sweet dance watching these two dance their ways towards each other both virtually and in person. Eventually their worlds collide into a sexual explosion and letting go. They figure out that they are both accepting of all sides of their personalities in this game, and baby do I enjoy watching them play!
4 out of 5 Hard-Ons
Finally - a place where I can completely lose my shit about this fic. How is it that I hadn't ever read any of her stuff?? I came across her fic The House on Maiden Lane from the dryhump contest and fell in love with it. As soon as I finished, I went to her profile and dove right into Angel. Then I about wet myself because I realized that our next rec was another of her fics.
Now...how can I begin to tell you how much I love SBI? First, let me start by saying that I'm a Christian Slater h00r. He was the It boy of my horny teenage years and pump up the volume was a favorite. What could be better than pairing hot as shit Hard Harry with completely fuckable Edward Cullen? Ummm....nothing, that's what.
One thing I really loved about the author's writing is the flow and the no nonsense content of her fics. She doesn't fuck around or draw plots out there's no unnecessary bumps along the way. She gets to the fucking point, keeping you intrigued the whole way.
But besides being intrigued? Well, yer gonna be a little hot, too. I mean...there is something about Edward in this that is soooooo hot to me (and makes me wanna rent pump up the volume too). When I read this, I about 'sploded in my underoos.
I felt my insides start to liquify as he slid out of me, then in, setting a pace that had me biting my lip to try to keep from screaming obscenities, just in case the parents Cullen decided to come home early and popped down to check on what I was doing to their baby boy. They might be slightly less cool at seeing the actual act in progress.
I wound my hands around him, letting my hands slide into the softness of his hair that curled at the back of his neck, pulling him closer. "Tell me," I moaned.
"That's my dirty girl," he grunted, as he thrust harder, one hand sliding up to find my breasts. He had some kind of direct feed into my pleasure centers, thumbing the sensitive nubs with just enough pressure to make me clench him even harder as my whole body reacted to his touch.
"You like that, don't you, having those beautiful tits played with?" He slid his hands beneath my back, rolling me over so that I was astride him.
5 out of 5 hard-ons
I first fell in love with this story when it was a one-shot for the Dirty Talking Eddie contest. [God! I loved that contest - I discovered SO many of my fave authors through it] Not only did I love how she wrote the story & the scenario high school seniors Bella & (misfit) Edward experience, but I love how she worked Pump up the Volume into the mix too. I loved that film. My best friend & I snuck in to see it when I was an underage teenager who had a 'hard-on' for Christian Slater.
Ok but back to this story. SophiaAnne writes beautifully! I love ALL her stories (in particular YOU MUST MUST MUST check out her Beauty and the Beast inspired novella she wrote for the twi gift exchange. Its an absolutely wonderful T rated piece, that I would squee with eternal happiness if she did an Edward POV for - or an outtake of their future. HINT HINT - SophiaAnne - HINT HINT! ;) ) So I was beyond thrilled when she indicated that the one-shot featuring Happy Harry & his Hard-On's would turn into a novella. She expanded this story beautifully, not losing any of the initial magic of the one-shot. Instead our pleasure was erm expanded, as bigger and longer in this case was most definitely better!
As always - her characters in this are perfectly placed for the story. Their characterisation make perfect sense. Bella is lost and doing the motions getting through high school not unhappy but not exactly experiencing passion and joy, watching the new boy, loner, Edward Cullen from afar... Until she hears Happy Harry & his hard-on. Crikey! Does he ever rock her world & make her feel & discover things she didn't know she had been looking for.
How could her world NOT be rocked by this:
The podcast that suddenly appears broadcast from Forks awakens Bella, desperate to find out who the horny bastard with the permanent hard-on actually is....
I absolutely love this novella. Its sexy, hot and heavy - but its so much more. This quote to me sums up the other side of this story. Just how spot on Sophia Anne is at conveying the inner psyche & soul of her characters:
5 "Hard-On's"out of 5 from me.
I should start by saying that this is the 3rd time I've pimped this story on a blog. 1st here as a One-Shot & recently on The Fictionators & now here we are again! So to say that I love this story is an understatement. I'm gonna try to not make this into a gushy love fest if I can help it.
I can't really pin down what exactly I love so much, I think it's a combination of several different factors; shy Bella, shy Edward, discontent Bella, discontent Edward, a little bit of mystery, kick-ass music, my fav Christian Slater movie “Pump Up the Volume", some fuckhot smut and a really beautiful and funny narrative.
Now a little about the story. With the arrival of Edward Cullen, the new doctors golden child from Chicago, Bella is no longer the fresh meat at Forks High. She’s instantly intrigued by the guy; He’s quiet, doesn’t make eye contact, stammers when anyone talks to him and is completely gorgeous. A mysterious podcast hosted by “Happy Harry Hard-on” pops up in Forks and has the student population all in a tizzy. Harry spanks it… a lot and generally bitches about the lameness that is Forks.
Bella creates an alter ego “Poetry Lady” to communicate with Harry. They tease and flirt and work each other up into a frenzy. But it's lacking something for Bella and she can't quite figure out what it is. All the while Edward & Bella are thrown together for a school project.
Bella begins to become obsessed with both Edward & Harry, a feeling drawn somehow to both. She’s on a mission to figure out who Harry is:
There really is no reason for you not to read So Be It. It's short, sweet, funny, intriguing and hella steamy and smutty. SBI was originally written for the Steamy Movie Crossover contest, SophiaAnne expanded it, fleshing out the story and adding a very healthy dose of UST and smutty fun times as well as more E&B time.
The whole thing has a beautiful & funny narrative, but SophiaAnne's smutty parts are lyrical and tingly:
Then his tongue traced the vein, sending a shock so unexpected I felt my knees start to buckle. It felt sinfully erotic, that tiniest of touches, and I realized the sound echoing in my ears was me moaning as he circled my waist to keep me upright and finally, finally, pulled us flush together, the soft skin of my belly now pressed against the harder flesh of his abdomen.
It's not all tender touches and erotic caresses. These two actually get each other, something that they haven't found before. There's teasing and lightness, but also a sense of deep connection as well. Also, Edward has a bit *coughhugecough*of dirty mouth on him. Which Bella doesn’t mind whatsoever:
I flat out moaned and threw my head back, the strokes of his tongue going straight to my clit before he stopped abruptly. I whined and whipped my head back up to glare at him and he grinned.
"I want you to watch me lick your pretty tits," he murmured.
Guh. It was possible I melted completely at that point, but at the least, speech was a total impossibility as I locked eyes and did as he requested. I was panting and rubbing against his thigh like a cat in heat as he took his time again, lavishing attention on first one and then the other of my breasts. And fuck me, as good as it felt, it was the look in his eyes, the complete intensity and heat that promised things I hadn't even dreamed of that had me on the brink of orgasm without him ever making a move into my panties.
And that's just the beginning! Now seriously, take the time to read this. I promise you won't be disappointed.
5 out of 5 Very Happy Hard-On's from me!
We all have movies that mean a great deal to us, that changed our lives and will always remain dear to our heart. Pump up the Volume has always been one of those movies for me. I had a huge crush on Christian Slater, ever since I saw him in Heathers, and the soundtrack for this movie transformed my world. At the time I was living in a small Alaskan town, Wasilla. (No, I couldn’t see Russia from my house.) I was a spastic, nerdy girl in high school, and my favorite band at the time was Depeche Mode. Nirvana had yet to reach my local radio station, and everyone I knew LOVED Warrant’s Cherry Pie.
Now, that I’ve seriously dated myself, lets talk about how insanely awesome it is to crossover Twilight with this movie. So much about who Mark (Hard Harry in the movie) mirrors Edward, from his feelings of displacement and isolation from his classmates (and family). His shy exterior that hides a wondrously complex young man, who desperately wants to connect with another person, and his frustration at not being able to, not to mention the hint of danger that makes him all the sexier. Then there’s Bella…oh, this is not an OOC Bella, no matter what anyone tells you. This is the funny and fearless Bella of Twilight. Despite her insecurity, and fears, she barrels headlong into pursuing a mysterious man and beautiful boy, because she is compelled by an instinctive knowledge of their connection.
This story is cut right out of the movie, but it focuses on the romantic relationship between the two leads, which was my main interest when I first saw the movie. After all, Christian Slater was RPatz of his day, and he spent a great deal of the movie shirtless, as does Edward in this story. Yeowza! We see the story through Bella’s point of view, experiencing first hand her wonder at discovering Happy Harry Hard-on and her curiosity over the shy new student at school, Edward Cullen. I won’t give away the rest of the story, but the premise is amusing, unique and timeless. SophiaAnne does a great job of updating and integrating the movie with the Twilight characters, and the result is a compelling, humorous and sexy story.
Speaking of sex…[please be patient while Jeanne completely looses her shit and flails like she’s having a seizure.] Yeah, I like it. It’s grounded in who these characters are, and how they perfectly they compliment each other. Plus, there’s nothing quite like a dirty talking Edward Cullen. *swoons*
This story is a smooth and delightful read. I’ve actually reread it a couple of times. It’s in my favorites list for a reason. How about you bring up the Pump up the Volume soundtrack on Grooveshark or buy it on iTunes, and read this story. You won’t regret it, I promise.
5 out of 5 Hard Ons!
I'm going to sum up this story in one big, fat word: Fuuuuuuuuuuuuck. Seriously. This was such naughty fun, uncontrolled lust, and teen angst all rolled into one yummy donut hole.
You know how most FFs progress: They meet; they flirt/angst; there's some UST; they fuck each other silly; HEA. End of story. Well, not in this story, anyway! I was expecting to wait for the red hot schmexing, but SophiaAnne pops it out right away, thank you very much.
It is no secret how much I love a shy, geeky, bespectacled Edward, and SophiaAnne's incarnation is no exception. Just like the movie, Pump Up the Volume, Edward is horribly shy, until he's behind the microphone. Oh, the things this boy says are enough to require additional undergarments. Did I also mention that he whacks off during every podcast? Well, yes, he does, and it is incredibly hot:
Naturally, Bella pines for Edward, not knowing he is Happy Harry Hard-On. They both spend their lunch hour reading in the library, where she steals subtle glances at him. When they are assigned to work on an English project together, it's just the entree Bella needs.
So as not to be a spoiler, I will merely mention that early in the story, Bella ends up in Edward's room that night, and their make-out session is SO freaking hot. These two incredibly shy individuals come together (twss) and it is like an atom bomb detonating. One of the best mutual masturbation scenes I've ever read. Really.
Since these two are uber-shy, however, suffice it to say that coming together (again, twss) doesn't resolve the fact that they still have trouble talking to each other. Face-to-face, that is. They make do with some sweet texting and IMs. Things finally come to a head (twss) during a confrontation at Edward's house, where he can only talk through the door to reach Bella. It's the only way he knows how to talk to her up close. Bella's response totally seals the deal:
You see, this story is more than just hot--it is sweet, and awkward, and real. Your heart breaks at Edward's shyness, and triumphs at Bella's sudden boldness. When they get to make the beast with two backs, you're practically screaming in triumph. Dude, it is steamy, lurid, and amazing:
*Ahem* Bella's not the only one... just saying.
My one criticism of this story: IT IS TOO SHORT. When I got to the end, I honestly, literally screamed out "NO!" in my living room (it's all right, the dog and cats all know I'm a crazy lady, anyhow). When I looked further and saw the word "Complete" following the story, my heart sunk. I wanted more and more and more of these two. I will give SophiaAnne this much, though--sometimes, short and sweet is exactly what you need. There are far too many fics that continue past their expiration date; not so for So Be It. She quit while she was ahead, and you cannot really fault her for that. The result is one beautiful, hot little gem of which she should be very proud.
5 out of 5 extremely happy hard-ons
I admit my age and am dating myself completely when I say I loved, worshipped and wanted to seriously bone Christian Slater in the 90's. Who am I kidding, I still would. Anyway, I too read this as a one shot from the movie contest and I couldn't STFU about it for days. It's one of those stories that you think about just randomly and smile like an idiot.
SophiaAnne managed to extend it from the perfection that was the one shot but she didn't drag it out like many do, no. She kept it short, sweet, fucking insanely hot and perfect in keeping with the original story.
The author has some of the hottest spoken and inner dialogue I've ever read. Jesus Christ, I really don't like high school fics but god damn did I enjoy the hell out of this one. I love the awkwardness of their real life interactions and how once Poetry Lady and Happy Harry get together, modesty is the last thing in the air.
The wonderful ladies have pulled some great quotes to add to their reviews so mine aren't needed but trust us on this. So Be It, is short, sweet, to the point but so mind meltingly hot, you'll be grateful you read it.
5 out of 5 Happy Horny Humpy Hard Ons.
First off this story was wickedly cute. Kill me, I like cute shit. Secondly, I’ve never seen Pump up the Volume, but I’ve been meaning to rent it ever since I read this. Thirdly, I read this when it was in the contest and then again for this review. I should also mention when I read it the second time, I read it aloud to the Peen. While I thought it was funny the first time, reading it to him was even better because I got some awesome reactions out of him. For example this scene:
My mouth went dry and I ducked back.
"I'm in the mood to make some noise. So what'll be? Any requests?"
The knock on his bedroom door echoed like a shotgun and I heard Edward freeze mid-dialogue, then wild shuffling.
While I was giggling my way through reading it, Peen made a sour lemon face followed by, “I fucking hated when that happened.” Ah to be a guy, I guess. Ha ha ha! When we got to Edward’s parents giving he and Bella some time to “hang out” Peen got all huffy and asked why his parents were never that cool when girls were over.
I really liked the fact they were different people to the outside world, but in their words, were truly themselves. And I’d be a big fat liar if I said I didn’t enjoy the big reveal between the two of them. Then we got to the smexy times and yeah, that part of this review will be fade to black. But trust when I say, we liked it! ;-)
To say that I was sad it was over is a huge understatement. I (Peen’s in agreement) would like to officially petition for more.
4 out of 5 happy, humpy hard-ons!!

So I log on to Twitter and see something about So Be It - and almost fell out of my chair! My story recced at PPSS?? No way!
Thank you so much for your round table rec - I can't begin to tell you how you all made my day as I read through your comments. Harry's sexy voice and pretty Edward are just a deadly combination in my mind - and I'm so glad that others have enjoyed it as well. Thank you again!
